Confusion about Purpose

There are some misconceptions that are common when it comes to your purpose and mission. These create confusion and cause so many to waste precious time and resources when they could actually be making lots of progress.

A few of the most common misconceptions are: If you have a purpose and you’re passionate enough, you will succeed; and you can make a good income on your big ideas; and once you find your purpose you’ll just know it.

If you are going to succeed it’s important I save you time and frustration by debunking these misconcepts. In this post I’ll unravel the first one:

If you have a purpose and you’re passionate enough, you will succeed

As much as this one might seem like it makes sense, let’s admit it, we all know people who are very passionate and aren’t successful. Now, some may ask, what do you mean by successful? From my experience and expertise success in your purpose is measured by both money and more importantly, impacting other’s lives. If you can’t do both, then you aren’t succeeding. If it’s your purpose it should be able to do both. Even people who work for charities or choose to donate all of their money to causes, must have money to cover naturally occurring expenses. In more rare cases some have family members that sponsor them to go do “XYZ” but that is extremely rare, and if you’re reading this, you’re probably not one of them.

So, how do you succeed? You find out how to fulfill your purpose by what you do and how others value it enough to exchange money for the benefits you provide them. When you do it correctly, the money does start to flow.

  1. I agree. This kinds of misconceptions are hit or miss in some cases. Not all passionate people can be successful despite what these “inspirational quotes” you see online. Let’s be realistic and say there are certain factors that come into play before you become successful. And in most cases, most of it is just plain luck. It’s about making use of the opportunities that we get and the opportunities that we make ourselves that gives us purpose in life.
