How to Deal With Sleep Issues as You Get Older

Sleep issues are very common in today’s modern society. In fact, it is estimated that 50 to 70 million Americans of all ages are impacted by sleep-related problems. 30% of the adult population suffers from insomnia which is the most common sleep disorder. For most these symptoms generally begin from ages 10–25 and can worsen with age. Fortunately, there are ways to deal with sleep issues as you grow older, and whatever age you start it is great health practice to prepare as the years come.

Take Supplements

Back pain is a common challenge that comes with age. Taking supplements can not only help to alleviate these stresses as your body grows older, but it can also benefit your sleep in positive ways. Natural supplements and vitamins have been proven to support overall health as well as increased sleep duration. Regular exercise can also help to support a life of overall good health. Many people do not know what kind of sleep supplements to take, so take the time to research and learn for yourself what is right for you.

Change How You Sleep

There are major factors that affect how much rest you actually get based on your sleeping habits. The first thing to consider is the mattress you sleep on. Consider that you live roughly 25 years on your mattress. It is worth it to invest in the right mattress that is comfortable and allows you a good night’s sleep. Plenty of mattress companies offer different payment and finance options if you can’t immediately afford a new mattress. With whatever mattress you own, certain sleeping positions are better than others, especially if you have back troubles. Lying on the back is generally considered the best sleeping position, but sleeping on the side with a pillow between the knees is also a good way to avoid back strain.

Get Eight Hours of Sleep a Night

Getting a full night’s sleep is quite important and oftentimes overlooked and underestimated. It is recommended to get seven to eight hours of sleep every night for your body to heal and grow, so it can be a wise decision to adjust your sleeping times to ensure a full night’s sleep. Everyone’s body works differently so it is good to figure out how much sleep you really need and live by that. In general, getting a full night’s sleep has significant health benefits, especially as you age.

With age comes change, and one change that impacts our lives every day is our ability to get a full night’s sleep. As we grow it is necessary to change habits and strategies to allow for effective sleep, so age can be a positive transformation that leads to a good and healthy life.
