The Three Letter Weight Loss Secret

The key to weight loss isn’t the 3-letter word you think it is . . .

A quick glance down an aisle of current magazine
covers belies our Question markapproach to weight loss. The headlines shout, “How to lose 5 lbs in 5 days!” “How to lose belly fat by walking!” “How to shed pounds in your sleep!”

The “need to lose weight” problem is epidemic, and our culture’s experts make a beeline to solutions beginning with how. When it comes to the weight-loss industry, there’s an avalanche of information on how. We have become food information-oholics, because we’re starving for information that will work. We want to know how to get results, andnow!

But focusing on how puts the cart before the horse. All too often we race through the scripts of do’s and don’ts but then trip and fall when our results don’t match the promised finish line. We quit. This is because we forget to focus first on the most important question to ask ourselves —why.

Do you want change? Why?

Spend time becoming clear on why you want change. Journal, draw, envision in detail why you want to feel more fit. Is it so that you can jump on the trampoline and not feel the flapping of your spare tire? Is it so that you can play tag with your grandkids without getting winded? Is it so that you feel more energized when you wake up? Is it so that you know which foods make you feel mentally alert and not sluggish?

The reasons why are as unique as each person is. When you define and visualize your true why, you will remain motivated to make lifelong change. When you know the why, the how becomes much easier. Your life purpose will blossom.

  1. I agree. You can not just choose to lose weight for a reason such as my boyfriend will not like me if i do not. Or it will not stick. You have to have a reason for yourself. It can still benefit others but it needs to benefit yourslef first or mostly. I think it also important to have a realistic goal in mind. Five days to lose 30 pounds is not realistic even if it is possible because everyone is different. You have to find what works for you.

  2. That’s the whole thing behind that idea, I mean, if we want to lose weight to look better it will be hard, but if we want to lose weight to be healthier and to have a better life style we will succeed because we will have the necessary motivation.
