How to Make Sure You Have the Best Yard in the Neighborhood

A big part of your home’s value is its curb appeal. There are a number of things that contribute to your curb appeal. This includes the condition that your house is in, the lawn, the landscaping, and additions like fencing. If you’re striving to have the best yard in your neighborhood, there are some changes that you can make. Curb appeal doesn’t always cost a ton of money. Maintenance can often be enough to keep everything looking nice.

Know Your Climate

When you’re choosing your landscaping, you’ll want to pay close attention to the climate that you’re living in. You might fall in love with certain trees or bushes at your local garden center. Unfortunately, you could end up wasting money if you purchase something that isn’t going to thrive on your property. As that plant suffers and eventually dies, you’ll have some unsightly landscaping to look at. If you’re not sure of what you can purchase, talk to a professional landscaper that can make some recommendations. Keep in mind that even maintenance practices will be affected by your climate.

Protect Your Green

The golden three of protecting a yard are proper fertilization, sufficient watering, and prevention of insects. Toxic plants aren’t going to last very long on your property. If they’re starving or infested, you’re going to be replacing items often. When you first plant something, as a professional how it should be planted, how often it needs to be watered, what the best fertilizer options are and how can you keep an eye out for pests. As the seasons change, make sure you’re keeping a close eye on your lawn and landscaping.

Make Investments

A lot of people spend a large amount of money on their home, only to forget about the exterior items that they have to purchase. For example, make sure you’re budgeting for lawn updates or installation, professional landscaping, potential borders or stonework and an updated driveway in many cases. In order to have the best yard in the neighborhood, you’re going to need to spend money on improvement investments. Make sure you’re maintaining everything in order to protect your investment.

It’s important to remember that less is more in many situations. If you plant way too many items in your yard, it can quickly become overgrown. This will result in a very messy situation that you can’t keep up with frequently enough. Stick to basic items in your yard that can be easily maintained on occasion. You can upgrade from there.
