How to Help Alleviate Humanitarian Issues Throughout the World

All you need to do is flip through the news to understand that much of the world is in dire need of change. With a host of global issues plaguing the planet, it is challenging to understand where to start doing some good. Here are three ways that you can help to alleviate some of the most pervasive humanitarian issues around the world.

Clean Drinking Water

The fact that millions of people in this world do not have access to clean drinking water is an outrage that needs to be addressed. Almost one million people die each year as a result of water and hygiene-related diseases. It is no surprise that the problem is worse in developing nations. Women are also disproportionately affected by the crisis because it often falls on their shoulders to collect water for their families. By some accounts, people without access to clean water have to go through a lengthy and regular process of decontaminating their water supplies. There are various organizations to which you can donate your time and money in an effort to build clean water wells to mitigate this crisis.

Food Insecurity

Food insecurity is defined as the lack of consistent access to enough food to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. The lack of sustenance is a serious global issue. Food insecurity is not limited to specific races or ages. Working with groups to provide food to disadvantaged citizens and teaching others to become more self-sufficient can go a long way in helping to fight food insecurity.

Infectious Disease

With poor sanitation, a lack of clean drinking water, and food insecurity also comes a higher rate of infectious diseases. Inadequate access to medical care and basic survival needs make individuals more susceptible to developing acute and chronic illnesses and diseases. The poor sanitation conditions also create rich environments for these germs to thrive and to multiply, compounding the issue even further. Putting pressure on lawmakers to provide sufficient medical care to people around the world will make the entire planet a healthier and more sustainable place to live.

You may feel helpless when it comes to making the world a better place. It is important to keep in mind that you have the power to make a big difference. By doing your part through baby steps, you can help to combat some of the most prevalent humanitarian issues that plague this world.
